Hello and happy new year! Last time I shared my annual practice of setting a New Year Intention, but I was still in the process of zeroing in on one for 2023.
Now I have it: equanimity. The ability to stay grounded and balanced, whatever the situation, to stand in the middle of the storm and not be blown over.
I’ve written about this noble quality before, but two years later my relationship to it has deepened. It’s been called “the ground for wisdom and freedom and the protector of compassion and love,”1 and I’m starting to grasp this not only as a concept but as a way of being in the world. Each time I touch into it—whether as a coach, a friend or a mom—I feel that freedom and I show up more skillfully.
Did you set an intention for the year? If so, I’d love to know about it. Why did you choose it? How are you seeing it show up in these early days of ‘23? Drop me a note or let us all know in the comments.
What’s Coming in 2023
I’m excited about (and yep, practicing equanimity around) a few big plans I have for the year. You may have checked out my Radiant Change Methodology, the living accumulation of 20+ years of working on, with and for change. This year, I plan to open up these principles and practices more broadly, beyond my clients:
Radiant Coaching Circle—I dream of creating connection among the many wonderful coaches I have the pleasure of knowing and working with. Part community of practitioners, part advisory council, part coaching bench, this group can offer us all opportunities to enrich, refine and scale our work. Coaches, we’ll be co-creating this circle together—comment below to be notified of next steps.
Course: Agents of Radiant Change (ARC)—Change doesn’t happen like we think it should. Our most elegant plans unravel amid vast complexity. Resistance is a given. Top-down mandates backfire. The good news is, there’s another way to lead change that is both more effective and more enjoyable. This hands-on course will invite you to bring a change you’re leading (or want to) and work toward it over 6 weeks with the support of an intimate cohort of change agents you’ll advise and champion in return.
Course: Transformational Leadership (working title)—It is the nature of leadership to drive change. But we can’t change what we can’t see. In this 12-week course, leaders will train in neuroscience-validated mindfulness practices that spark and sustain change from the inside out. We start with ourselves, and we go deep. Mindfulness is our transformational technology, helping us see more clearly what’s happening within and around us so that we can choose how we respond, rather than running on autopilot.
Stay tuned… We Can Change readers will be the first to know when course registration opens.
Onward!
