“Be the change”
doesn’t mean:
be
a part
of change
does mean:
nothing
changes
unless
you
do
Changing the world starts with transforming ourselves. There’s no getting around it.
I know because I’ve tried.
My entire career has been about change: social change, behavioral change, organizational change. But for years, I was doing it all wrong.
This was primarily because I thought other people were the problem, that I was one of the “good ones.” (Can you relate?) As a result, my activism and change work were shallow, the results unsustainable.
I became a more effective change agent and advocate when I committed to the deep work of knowing and growing myself.
To examining my own limiting narratives.
To reckoning with my own power and privilege.
To sitting with my own discomfort and learning to swim against the stream.
My mindset shifted. My insight sharpened. My relationships deepened. I got clear on my gifts and what I needed to do with them.
And then I got to the real work of my life.
I suspect we all need to learn this in our own way, in our own time. But if you too are one of the “good ones,” I beg you:
Please, don’t be afraid to look inward to move the world forward.
Because nothing is going to change unless you do.
This week’s newsletter post is a good place to start. I’ll be sharing my personal practice of setting a new year intention, which is more real and more powerful than a resolution—with none of the icky pressure.
