And we’re back! We Can Change had a lovely summer hiatus, capped by a family trip to London and Ireland (maybe you followed our adventures on Insta), and I’m feeling refreshed and energized. I hope you’ve had an opportunity to step away from your work recently—whether for rest or adventure, or both—and if not, let this be a gentle reminder that to be effective, we need perspective.
This week’s provocation is inspired by a pattern I’ve noticed in my clients, which I doubt I would’ve recognized if I hadn’t given myself some good space.
The two common entry points into transformational leadership:
We want to change something around us—
a lagging team, an inefficient process, a toxic culture—
Or
We need to change something within us—
our mindset, our focus, our reactions—
One is easy to say but hard to do.
The other is hard to say, but makes everything doable.
Two doorways into the same room.
What do you want to change in your organization, team or relationship? What’s the problem you want to tackle? What is your vision for how things might be?
What needs to shift within you? Where are you blocked, frustrated, resentful? Where is your modus operandi seeing diminishing returns? How will you show up instead?
Are your doorways connected? How might that which you want to change around you be served by a change within you?
Applications for Agents of Radiant Change (ARC) are still open for those wanting (or needing) to lead change in your organization. We’ll have two cohorts: One for change leaders and one for the coaches/consultants who serve them. (Are you both? On your ARC application, simply select the role most relevant to the change you’re looking to lead.) Next week we’ll finalize dates and times based on the time zones represented, so now is the time to get your logistics in the mix!
