I refuse to treat you the way you’re accustomed to being treated.
I will not speak to you the way your inner critic does.
I vow not to judge you by your latest mistake.
I will always strive to lead with love.
“Love?!” some will gasp. “What does love have to do with work?”
Maybe they’re stuck in that old story:
That pressure is what drives performance
That sharp edges are what hone talent
That accountability and affection are mutually exclusive.
But I have learned that people will show up for those who show up for them.
I have seen that we only grow when we feel safe and accepted for who we are.
I have found it so much easier to lead when I start with love and go from there.
I’m not saying it’s perfect.
My heart gets broken from time to time.
Usually, people wonder, “Is she for real?”
Or think me naive, or roll their eyes.
But I don’t mind. I’m used to it by now.
I’m going to love you. And you can deal with it.
